Report on the Yeovil District Open Meet

A small group of Southwold Swimmers ventured to Millfield at the weekend to take part in this year’s Christmas meet. For some of the younger swimmers this was their first visit to Millfield. As most swimmers had attended Hereford only two weeks previously PBs were hard to come by.  Our small group was made even smaller by the fact a few were unable to attend due to various illnesses and a few of the swimmers who were there, were feeling a little under the weather. Congratulations goes to Sophie Wilkins for achieving two Regional times (100 and 200 Back) and to Ben Rawlins for being the most determined ever and achieving his 200 Breast Regional time (phew). Bethany Cox improved on some of her regional times and won gold in the 200 Back and whilst Maria Jones managed to pick up 6 medals, PBs were few and far between. Ed Aris was swimming well, managing 10 PBs and Dan Harding and James Webb also managed some large PBs. However the star of the weekend was Jess Shaw, who was on top form and managed to pick up 6 gold and 2 silver medals and achieved 9 PBs – well done Jess!  A big thank you to all those volunteers who helped out – particularly to Chris Holden who was officiating all weekend and who no longer has any children at the club.
