The club entered our second level one, long course (50 metre pool) event of the season on the first weekend in April. You know the standard will be high when the weekend’s programme includes the national qualifying times on the first page! Indeed clubs from all over the country were entered.
Top three places for medals were therefore hard to come by but six of our swimmers set 21 new, all-time Southwold club records for the long course.
Melissa Dale (9) – 2 new records in 50m and 200m breaststroke to earn silver and bronze medals, announcing herself as one of the bright new stars of our club
Dan Harding (10) – 5 new records and a bronze medal in the 50 back
Joshua Holloway (11) in the 50m breaststoke
Ben Rawlins (13) – 2 records in 100m and 200m breaststroke as well as a silver medal in the 50m
Henry Bennett (13) – 4 records plus 2 bronze medals
Jessica Shaw (15) – 7 new records, plus 2 gold and 1 bronze medal across the 50 metre events
Henry and Ben swam strongly all weekend, spurring each other on to significant PBs, ahead of the South West Regional Championships.
Beth Cox also recorded big PBs in several events across the weekend. Beth was the only Southwold swimmer to brave the daunting 400 IM long course and improved her time by over 11 seconds.
There were also notable PBs in the 400 free for Morgan Creed and Georgie Lloyd, who achieved the club’s biggest single improvement of the weekend, 26.48 seconds!
